Music became more than just a hobby for me back in middle school. One day, I decided to try out for the volleyball team — and let’s just say I was awful. Not because I didn’t have the ability, but because I didn’t have the passion.When I sing, it’s different. My mind slows down. I feel calm, free, and safe to be myself. In high school, I played Effie White in Dreamgirls. When I performed “And I’m Telling You” and got my first standing ovation, I knew. My name is Destini, and music is my destiny.
